Origin life on the line for Scott

- PETER BADEL

MATT Scott is playing for his Origin career against the Warriors tonight as Cowboys teammates Coen Hess and Gavin Cooper appealed for Maroons selectors not to wield the axe.

The Queensland team for Origin II is named on Monday, giving Cowboys enforcer Scott one final chance to audition for an Origin recall when he charges into a huge Warriors pack in Townsville.

Scott was a shock omission for Queensland’s 22-12 loss in Game One, but the Cowboys warhorse can resurrect his decorated 22-game Origin career by spearheading a Warriors boilover.

Queensland coach Kevin Walters confirmed Scott is in line for selection and Hess believes the Maroons need the Cowboys co-captain’s experience for Origin II at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium on Sunday week.

“I would love to see Matt Scott get another chance (for Queensland),” said Cowboys cohort Hess, who played off the bench for the Maroons in Origin I.

“Thumper (Scott) ... we’ve all seen what he has done in the Origin arena in the past.”
