SAMI TRIES AND TRIES AGAIN TO FIND BEST

- EMMA GREENWOOD

PHILLIP Sami does not believe he has yet sealed a permanent place in the Titans line-up despite emerging as a try-scoring whiz.

Sami has scored seven tries this season, more than any other Titans player.

And despite the young gun emerging as one of the Gold Coast’s most potent attacking players in his first full season in first grade, he does not feel immune from the selection axe and is determined to raise his level further to cement a starting place.

“I don’t think I’ve cemented my spot, I think I’ve got to keep playing good footy,” he said when asked whether it was his preference to stay on the wing. I haven’t been too happy with my performance lately, I feel like I could be a bit better than what I have been.

“I just want to stay consistent with my footy.

“Obviously I’d like to be better each week but the main thing for me is consistency and I just want that gap to be small between my good and bad games. Hopefully I can make a name for that and stay in the top grade.”

While Sami is looking to up his involvement in the game, his stats say he has been one of the Titans’ best this season.

As well as being the leading tryscorer — Sami has the most line breaks and tackle breaks in the team and leads the backs in run metres.
