Gollan wants more

- MARK OBERHARDT

TRAINER Tony Gollan is confident he can set a new record for wins in a Queensland metropolitan season after adding to his tally with a double at Ipswich.

Gollan won Saturday’s Listed Eye Liner Stakes with I’m A Rippa and the Class Six handicap with Of The Day to reach 78 winners for the season.

Of The Day gave owner Linda Huddy and her husband Graham three wins for the week while Gollan has had five winners in the past six days.

Gollan, who has five straight Brisbane premierships safely in his keeping, is chasing 86-1/2 winners for the season, the standard he set in 2015-16.

“There are 12 meetings to go before the end of the year and I think we can give the record a real shake,” Gollan said. Gollan has accepted with five horses at Ipswich tomorrow and has nominated four for Doomben on Saturday.

Looking further ahead, he is keen to get black-type for Of The Day who is likely to race on for at least another season.

“I might even sneak her up

to Rockhampton for the Newmarket or to Grafton for the Ramornie,” Gollan said.

I’m A Rippa, who went over the $1 million prizemoney mark on Saturday, might run in the Glasshouse Sprint at Caloundra on June 30.

Stablemate Most Important, could also run in the Glasshouse but a call is yet to be made.
