Dying refugee gets transfer
A TERMINALLY ill father, who lay dying in Nauru’s offshore detention centre, is set to begin palliative care in Australia after a public outcry.
The 63-year-old Hazara Afghan man, named only as Ali, was reportedly told by Australian authorities he could go to Taiwan for treatment after his deadly lung cancer diagnosis.
But an outcry from medical practitioners, citizens and advocacy groups mounted pressure on the Department of Home Affairs to grant Ali entry to Australia. The department quietly relented on Saturday and Ali was flown to Brisbane.
