Hot run ends at hands of University

- – BRENT O’NEILL

LABRADOR’S red-hot Brisbane Hockey League run came to an end on Saturday as University of Queensland took valuable points off the Tigerstix for the second time this season.

Having scored seven goals or more in their previous three games, third-placed Labrador were expected to ease past UQ at Keith Hunt Park but were forced to share the spoils in a 3-3 draw.

Sixth-placed UQ, who downed the Tigerstix in Round 2, opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a field goal to Ryan Smith, before in-form captain Joe Reardon hit the crucial equaliser for Labrador.

Josh Davies struck for the Red Roos from a penalty corner just before halftime, before the Tigerstix went ahead 3-2 with two unanswered goals.

First, Dylan Wotherspoon found the net for the 12th time this season, with Tyler Arundell then slotting the go-ahead goal for the home side.

However, an Ashley Hennegan strike 14 minutes from time ensured the teams would split the points.

The result dropped Labrador to fourth spot on the table, two points behind Pine Rivers St Andrews.
