Suns likely to take it to Max

-

DEVELOPING defender Max Spencer could come into frame for senior selection in the Suns’ clash with Collingwood following the loss of tall Sam Day.

Gold Coast will find out whether they have lost another key defensive option today after Day was forced from the field in the wake of a marking contest in the Suns’ 53-point loss to Hawthorn.

Steven May (ankle) is still out of action but Rory Thompson (hamstring) could be a chance to return.

Gold Coast NEAFL coach Nick Malceski said Spencer, who has seven AFL games to his name, had taken further steps forward in 2018 after improving his leadership and one-on-one contested work.

“Last year Max was a bit inconsistent with his one-on-one stuff,” Malceski said.

“He would have some really good moments and then do things he wasn’t happy with.

“This year he has been focusing on that.”

Gold Coast’s reserves paid the price of a third-quarter lapse for the second week in a row on Saturday, falling 11.15 (81) to 10.15 (75) to Sydney University at Blacktown.
