DOLPHINS SEAL THE DEAL FOR KNIGHTS REMATCH

- CONNOR O’BRIEN

THE stage is set for an enthralling Surfers Paradise versus Griffith University Colleges rematch after the archrivals enjoyed wins of different natures on Saturday.

Surfers accounted for Coolangatta Tweed with relative ease, posting a 50-3 win at Glennon Park as Lachie Currie, Karl Giles and captain Andy Finn all notched doubles.

For the Knights, it was a bumpier road on their way to a 41-12 victory against Palm Beach Currumbin.

The table-topping side had to play against a threeman overlap at one point with flanker Harrison Cumming and winger Pila Fifita red carded and scrumhalf Cam Dodd issued a yellow.

But Colleges managed to hang tough through that period and even found the tryline courtesy of secondrower Kerrod Martorella in a show of their dominance.

“The boys actually stepped up a gear when that happened,” said coach Graham Herlihy.

With a feeling that the red cards had been issued “hastily”, Herlihy declared the club would appeal the automatic minimum sanction of a one-match suspension that comes with a send-off.

He added the “big positive” was their ability to keep the Alleygators to four penalty goals and no tries as they build up to this Saturday’s rematch of their 22-21 win over Surfers last month.

Meanwhile, the Queensland Country Heelers will begin their New Zealand tour today with a match against Ellesmere from 5pm (Queensland time).
