BROC STEPS UP A GEAR
Top junior racer Broc Feeney has a bright future on the track and courses at TAFE are adding mechanical know-how to his talent
HE’S one of Australia’s brightest and youngest motorsport stars, and now 15-year-old Broc Feeney is preparing to take his career to the next level.
As one of the country’s best junior racers, the All Saints Anglican College student has started his automotive schoolbased apprenticeship at TAFE Queensland Gold Coast region, also enrolling in a light vehicle mechanical technology course.
The courses will give him a strong educational foundation as he moves into a professional career, according to his automotive teacher Glenn Cuthbert.
“With a strong school education already behind him, Broc is further embarking on his career pathway as he steps off the podium and into the classroom as a first-year
automotive light vehicle mechanical apprentice,” Mr Cuthbert said.
“I’m sure he’ll bring his motorsport experience into the trade classroom, which he attends on his day-release training at the Ashmore Campus, to the delight of his fellow classmates.”
Broc’s talent is no secret in the industry, with his sponsors agreeing he has the skills and know how to take him to the highest level of motorsport.
For general manager of TAFE Queensland Karen Dickinson, the chance to have the young talent in their classrooms is a “tremendous honour”.
“Top performers in the game recognise the quality training that we have on offer here on the Gold Coast,” Mrs Dickson said.
“We are committed to providing quality education and training for everyone.
“Our expert, award-winning trade teachers have extensive and current industry experience that benefits our students and allows them to graduate with a nationally recognised qualification.”
Broc understands the importance of the business off the track as much as the results on the circuit, growing up around motorsport and building an enviable profile for himself over the past few years.
Last year, Broc won the elite junior karting category in Australia, propelling him on to the world stage.
He become the first Australian to finish on the podium at the ROK International Cup and this year made the transition to circuit racing, finishing 14th out of 39 competitors.
As the year goes on he has his eyes to the future, hoping to take on an international career in 2019.
