Double delight for our Jake

- with Brett Wilkie

BURLEIGH’S Jake Fehlberg has added an Australian Open title to his Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Vision Impaired gold medal.

Fehlberg was guided once again by father Grant (director) to victory at Broadbeach over John Vance from Tamborine Mountain in the final.

Ryan Bester, Ryan Burnett (Broadbeach) and Nathan Rice from Helensvale were the only other three locals to claim victory in the Australian Open.

Bester won the blue-ribbon men’s singles for the first time after being runner up in the past.

Burnett and Rice claimed the men’s fours title, which was back to back for Burnett and a maiden title for Rice. Multiple world champions Jeremy Henry and Alex Marshall made up the four.

Bester claimed the best performed player for the Open, while David Ferguson and Natasha Scott finished the year on top of the Australian rankings list.

The Open was another fantastic boost for local clubs with many visitors still on the Coast.

The great weather added to the quality of the event with some cracking games played.

Many people have re- marked on the quality of the greens, which is a credit to our local green keepers.
