BRISBANE CHART-TOPPERS SIGNED TO PERFORM AT GC600

- SUZANNE SIMONOT

POP chart-toppers Sheppard will show off tracks from their new No.1 album when they perform for motorsport fans at this year’s 28th Supercars Gold Coast 600.

The world-conquering Brisbane band, tipped to perform for guests at tonight’s official Gold Coast 600 launch at Nineteen at The Star, will join two major international acts on the bill for the Broadwater Sounds race weekend concert at Broadwater Parklands on Saturday, October 20.

Best known for enduring pop gems such as Geronimo and Let Me Down Easy, the ARIA-winning musicmakers’ second album, Watching the Sky, has been No.1 on the ARIA and iTunes charts since its release on June 8.

George Sheppard said the response to Watching the Sky had come as a huge relief to him and his bandmates – sisters Amy and Emma Sheppard, Dean Gordon, Michael Butler and Jason Bovino.

“I feel like the biggest weight has been lifted off my shoulders,” he said.

“It was something we needed to prove to ourselves – that we’re not one-hit wonders. To know everybody has received the album so well and we have a No.1 is great.”

Much like the band, Sheppard fans are a broad church.

“We always try to write music about stuff people can relate to and that is universally accepted,” George said.

“I guess we’re a fun band. We try and write stuff that is positive and that comes from an authentic place – songs about real things to us are the songs that do really well.”
