Inebriated horse rider saddled with conviction

-

A WOMAN who drunk-rode her horse through a Logan bottle shop while more than four times over the legal alcohol limit claims she wasn’t aware that she could be charged

Charmaine Maguire, 51, yesterday pleaded guilty in the Beenleigh Magistrates’ Court to being in charge of a horse while under the influence of liquor, after she returned a blood-alcohol reading of .226 following an incident at the Logan City Tavern on June 4.

She was sentenced to 18 months’ probation and had a conviction recorded after the court heard she arrived at the tavern swigging from a bottle of wine, smelling of alcohol and struggling to stay on the horse.

“I had no idea I could be done for drink-driving on my horse, and I won’t do it again,” she said.

Outside court, the self-confessed alcoholic (pictured) said the charge against her had come as a shock.
