OFF THE RECORD

WHO’S been a naughty boy then? Which well known CEO decided the idea of sleeping rough at the annual Vinnies Sleep Out needed a little bit of spicing up? Knowing that all containers and backpacks would be searched on entry to Cbus Stadium, he cleverly wrapped a bottle of very good red wine in his sleeping bag. Later when he thought no one was watching he quietly unscrewed the top and set about demolishing the contents. Let’s just say he slept like a log and according to those within earshot, his snoring was measured at something akin to a leaf blower. Hic!

THE Eagles wrote some classic songs, none more so than Life in the Fast Lane. One of our pretty young things is certainly living by the lyrics ‘There were lines on the mirror, lines on her face’. It has become a running (nose) joke among those in the know how long it will take before she excuses herself at any function she attends to scurry off to the bathroom. By happy coincidence her return to the table usually signifies a change in her mood because she suddenly seems lighter and brighter, without a care in the world … until the buzz wears off. Silly, silly girl.

IF you can’t say something nice about someone, don’t say anything is not a motto this dame has hanging on her (empty) bedroom wall. One gent’s ears are still burning after he mistakenly sat down for a friendly chat. Anyone who had ever crossed or disagreed with the lady of the moment is usually in for a difficult time, and thus was the case for said gent who was given a thorough going over in a 10-minute tirade. The shredding got so bad that the gent made an excuse and exited stage left but he now fears that his hasty departure will make her consider him to be a mortal enemy. Stand by for incoming.

IF in doubt slander your enemies and competitors seems to be the motto for this gossip girl. No matter the person she always seems to have a piece of scurrilous “news” to pass on about their comings and goings. Nothing is too outrageous with most of the usual human frailties attributed to the character of her victims. Unfortunately sweetie while it is sort of fascinating to hear, most people know that you are only spreading the bad news as some sort of revenge because you are envious of their success or achievements. It actually says more about you than the people you are badmouthing. Jealousy is a curse!
