Mitchell considers coach for title tilt
GOLD Coast big-wave surfer Jamie Mitchell has revealed he is considering getting a coach as he chases a maiden world title.
Mitchell (pictured) made a successful return to the water on the weekend, reaching the semi-finals of the 2018 Puerto Escondido Cup.
It was the 41-year-old’s first competition since having surgery on his right bicep and shoulder at the end of March.
Mitchell said despite being knocked out in the semi-finals after catching just one wave in the heat, he felt like it was a win returning to competition.
“Well, I’m alive,” Mitchell told his social media followers following the men’s event, won by Brazilian Lucas Chianca.
“I had a lot of fun and my shoulder held up pretty well.
“I got a couple of waves and took a couple on the head but I live to fight another day.
“I learnt some good lessons in the contest about what I should and shouldn’t be doing, so all in all it was a good learning experience and good to be back in the water with the crew.”
Winning a BWT world title was one of the things Mitchell wants to tick off his bucket list and he said he was considering bringing in a coach to do it.
