240 hours for king hit

-

A GOLD Coast one punch attacker will have to do 240 hours community service after a house party assault last year.

Marcus Durban pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm in the Southport Magistrates Court yesterday after punching a 20-year-old in the face so hard he broke his nose and front teeth.

The court heard Durban was 17 years old when he hit the man at a house party on July 2 last year after being asked to leave.

Defence lawyer Michael McMillan, principal of McMillan Criminal Law, submitted references from Durban’s partner and mother and said his client planned to join the Army in the future.

Magistrate Kerrie O’Callaghan sentenced Durban to 240 hours of community service to be completed within 12 months, the maximum amount of community service she could give him. No conviction was recorded.

Ms O’Callaghan said she took into account Durban’s age at the time of the assault.

Outside court Durban said: “What I did was wrong and I feel sorry for what I did.

“I feel sorry for the family that I put through that.”
