Hero dog sold a pup

Life dealt Krumm a ruff deal

THE furry-faced ambassador for disabled animals across the globe, dachshund Krumm, has been described as an “angel with attitude” by his devoted owner after his unexpected death at the weekend.

Nine-year-old Krumm was a wheelchair-bound dachshund which suffered from invertebral disc disease (IVDD) and was the face of animal charity Storybook Farm Sacred Animal Garden, founded by Lisa-Jayne Cameron.

He was also an animal film star, appearing in Swinging Safari, a movie starring Kylie Minogue and filmed on the Gold Coast.

Ms Cameron said Krumm died on Sunday due to underlying cancer or a spider bite.

She said the fearless pooch suddenly went downhill within a matter of hours. He had been taken to a vet hospital.

“I’m OK for a little while, then get a horrible wave of grief that takes your breath away,” she said.

Ms Cameron said Krumm touched many people’s lives with a determination to live his life to the fullest.

“We could all be a bit more like Krumm,” she said. “He was special because of his refusal to act like a well-mannered dog. He was unashamedly him, he had an opinion on everything.”

Ms Cameron said Krumm lived life so fast that he often took off and left his wheels behind.

“He was naughty and noisy, he destroyed so many sets of wheels,” she smiled.

“But Krumm would turn into a different dog (when he visited people in need) and go to the person that needed him most.

“We had a motorbike accident victim unwilling to do exercises. Krumm did exercises with him and three weeks later we were told this person got back into it because ‘the (expletive) dog put him to shame’.

“He was magic. We called him the angel with attitude.”

Ms Cameron said Krumm was taken to Storybook Farm, which looks after special needs animals, when his owner couldn’t keep up with caring for the diseased pup.

“We were so blessed to have him,” she said.

A memorial service will be held on the Gold Coast on a date to be determined.
