RACQUETS A HIT WITH COAST KIDS

Folau given match ban

-

TENNIS Australia sure is making a racquet.

In a bid to grow their sport and promote physical activity in schools, the nation’s peak body for tennis has gifted more than 420 students a racquet.

With the support of ANZ, 80,000 racquets have been delivered across Australia since January, 2015, with a further 30,000 to be delivered this year.

Grand slam doubles champion Todd Woodbridge is proud of the initiative’s success to date.

“The ANZ racquet initiative is a fantastic way to introduce and inspire more kids to play tennis,” Woodbridge said.

“ANZ has helped us introduce tennis to kids in schools by delivering 110,000 racquets across the country which is an amazing achievement.”

Nationwide, more than 384,584 children played ANZ Tennis Hot Shots in 2016/17, making the program one of Australia’s most popular sport participation programs.

There are currently more than 2650 schools Australia wide who participate in the program. RUGBY Australia will appeal against the one-match ban handed down to Wallabies and Waratahs star Israel Folau for his aerial collision during the third Test against Ireland.

A World Rugby judicial hearing in Sydney last night handed down the suspension, which means Folau will miss tomorrow’s night’s Super Rugby clash with Melbourne at AAMI Park.

The judicial panel of Shao Wang (Singapore), Val Toma (Romania) and Eroni Clarke (NZ) took more than four hours to reach an outcome.
