DREAMS BROUGHT TO LIFE

- AMANDA ROBBEMOND

WALKING alongside bears, being a forest fairy, becoming a giant or playing super villains.

Children’s wildest fantasies can become reality thanks to a Gold Coast man who pieces them together through photoshop.

Stay-at-home father of two Toby Hames said he had started superimposing photographs of his children into fantasy-themed digital compositions just under a year ago. When he promoted his art on Facebook, parents jumped at the chance to see their kids immortalised as their heroes.

“I didn’t know I’d get the response I’d get,” Mr Hames said. “I’ve already got six commissions lined up. Normally I charge $50 (per hour) for a logo design ... I make more with logos than composition work. But I’d like this to be my main job. I love doing it.”

The Mount Tamborine resident said he used an array of digital elements – often up to 150 layers – to painstakingly piece the finished picture together. “Every single element has to be added and created,” he said.
