Record price for Tamborine retreat

- ALEISHA DAWSON

A SPRAWLING Tamborine Mountain property has sold for $2.9 million — the highest sale in the suburb this year.

A Brisbane buyer bought Mandalay, a luxury five-bedroom retreat with a contemporary Asian style, at 905E Main Western Rd.

The property first hit the market in June, 2017.

However, Colleen Brunt and Nick Zhang of Amir Mian Prestige Property Agents took over the marketing in February, 2018.

“We probably had it on our books for three to four months before we hit the market hard,” Ms Brunt said.

“We were very specific with the market we targeted and streamlined our marketing and targeted who we thought would be the best audience.

“Within three weeks we were discussing contracts.”

Ms Brunt described the property as resort-style with spectacular Hinterland views.

“The Brisbane buyers fell in love with the quality of the home and the views,” she said.

“It’s five stars. There’s plenty of space for their extended family and it’s all one level — it’s a very attractive home.”

The property commands a 180-degree mountain range view and is situated 435m above sea level.

Vendors Suzanne Richard Swain bought 4.815ha block in 2010.

“When we found the block we fell in love with the views,” and the Mrs Swain told the Bulletin when the property hit the market last year. ”

“The cloud formations over the valley in the morning makes it feel like you’re waking up and looking out of a plane window.”

Two years later the couple created the home.

“When we were designing it, our brief to the builders was to have a home with a view from every room,” she said.

Raw materials are showcased in the interiors with stone, timber and glass while soaring 3m ceilings and wide hallways create a sense of space.

A fish pond surrounds the alfresco area and a larger pond creates a garden feature.

CoreLogic records show the highest sale on Tamborine Mountain is $5.5 million in 2016 for a mega mansion reminiscent of The Great Gatsby-era.

Mandalay is the third highest residential sale on the WITH ALEISHA DAWSON & JESSICA BROWN mountain. “We’re finding that the big properties on Tamborine Mountain are attracting a lot of inquiry from Brisbane,” Ms Brunt said.

“Some inquiry is also coming from interstate — it’s not so much people wanting to move up there but people wanting to own a retreat up there on the mountain.”
