Demons find belief
SURFERS Paradise QAFL coach Brad Moore says his side is starting to realise what it’s capable of after producing a performance worthy of finals in the club’s 10-point win over Morningside.
The Demons overcame a 27-point halftime deficit to secure a 11.8 (74) to 9.10 (64) win in front of home fans at Sir Bruce Small Park on Saturday.
It has lifted Surfers Paradise from sixth to fourth on the ladder and given the side a four-point buffer over both Wilston Grange and Morningside.
“We have been on the losing end of a couple of close ones,” Moore said.
“The boys are learning but it’s more a realisation of what their capabilities are. We probably let ourselves down in the second quarter but we addressed a few issues about being confident in what they can produce.
“We went out after halftime and made amends.”
It could become a defining win in the club’s season as both Morningside and Wilston Grange fight to stay in the hunt for the top five in
order to secure their entry into the finals.
“We are a young group and want to play finals footy and you have got to be good in games like (Saturday) to do that,” Moore said.
“These games could make a big difference and we only have a handful of games to go before the end of the regular season so we need to make sure we win those ones.”
Palm Beach Currumbin remain undefeated after smashing Sandgate 29.18 (192) to 8.4 (52). Lions forward Jack Anthony kicked 10 goals in the 140-point win.
Broadbeach remain second after a 13.15 (93) to 10.7 (67) win over Western Magpies. The Cats trailed by 10 points after the first term but gained control from the second quarter.
