MP URGES UNITY FOR TOURISM GROWTH

- RYAN KEEN

GOLD Coast State Opposition MP David Crisafulli is calling on the city tourism industry to present a united front for better traction with politicians on big projects.

Mr Crisafulli, who spoke at a breakfast at the Currumbin RSL Club yesterday where he emphasised the importance of the sector during Gold Coast Tourism Week, told the Bulletin afterwards: “The industry has to unite to lobby government to explain just how important they are to the economy. On the Gold Coast we have nearly 50,000 people making a living as a result of tourism.

“It’s almost one in five jobs. There are so many small businesses. What I really want to see is them all unite so the Government sits up and take notice.

“We need to broaden our tourism offering and the Gold Coast Bulletin’s Golden Age campaign is so powerful in showing us what opportunities lie out there.”

The ongoing campaign focused on tourism in week two highlighting ongoing debates around the prospect of a cruise ship terminal and potential for beach-edge hospitality.
