IT seems you can teach an old dog new tricks. Talking to Earle Hinschen, the event director and main creator of the d’Arcy Doyle Art Awards, on opening night of the Awards, and he told how amazed he was at the response to the children’s section of the awards last year. So this year a bigger space was created to house the large number of entries and properly showcase their artistry. Now comes the new trick. A suggestion was made to Earle that Instagram should be put to use in getting the word out about the artwork of the young ‘uns. “I didn’t think it would make much difference but in three hours we had over 21,000 likes. It was astonishin­g. There were reactions from people from all over the world,” he said with a chuckle. Social media – who knew?
