Cyclones warning for rivals
GOLD Coast surf lifesavers dominate the Queensland Cyclones IRB squad chosen for the interstate championships this month.
North Burleigh, Kirra and Kurrawa have 14 members in the Cyclones team which is chasing its 10 straight interstate title.
North Burleigh’s Barbour is the coach.
The “state v state” format will see the country’s top IRB crews face off at Thirroul Beach, on the NSW Illawarra coast, on July 13 for bragging rights and interstate glory.
SLSQ sports development co-ordinator Matthew Palmer said the 2018 team was more than capable of matching it with the country’s best.
“It’s a really strong team with a lot of experience among the ranks, and it’s an exciting opportunity for them to go head-to-head against the best IRB crews from across Australia,” he said.
“Queensland has an exceptional record when it comes to IRB racing; we’ve won the past nine interstate championships, which is a phenomenal effort, and we obviously want to keep that streak going.”
The 2018 interstate IRB championships will be a leadin to the Australian club championships that weekend. Adam
