FAMILY POSITIVELY FIGHTING BULLYING
AFTER losing a close family friend to suicide, the Mackay family from Miami are abolishing bullying and spreading kindness in their local community.
With such a prevalence of face-to-face and online bullying, the Mackays — Jared, Deni and their sons, Jackson, 15, Bailey, 13, and Cooper, 11 — are encouraging their community to get behind The String Movement, an anti-bullying campaign.
“The String Movement is an initiative of the church we belong to which calls on people to disarm bullying with kindness,” said Jared.
The family recently ran the 5.7km Gold Coast marathon event wearing T-shirts emblazoned with “The String Movement” on the front and “be kind” on the back.
“We’re a pretty active family, snorkelling, spearfishing and bushwalking, and we’ve participated in other Gold Coast Marathon events,” he said.
The String Movement, a social justice initiative of Hillsong church, was established in 2011 and is an inclusive student-led campaign platform encouraging young people to spread kindness.
