OFF THE RECORD

-

APPARENTLY all (good) publicity is not good publicity. How else to explain the blanket ban imposed on a media friendly dude who is always happy to provide a quote or partake in a photo opportunity. One of the drones in sector 7 who resides higher up the food chain in this organisation has sent out an edict that the dude’s media interaction is to stop immediately. Even something as harmless as appearing in a social pic in this humble column is considered verboten. Could it be that the drone, who has the personality of a cold meat pie, is a tad jealous and thinks the photos and quotes should be about him? Hmmm?

SOMEONE must have really got out of the wrong side of the bed. The scene is a well-known fruit and veg store. A grand dame approaches with her trolley and unloads the contents on to the counter. The amiable clerk asks if she would like the contents placed in a plastic bag. When she says she would he then says it is 10 cents a bag. Shock, horror, outrage and a stream of very bad words were then directed at the hapless clerk before madam stormed out of the shop leaving her goods on the counter. We hate to think what would have happened if they had been 15 cent bags. Clean up on aisle two.

IT was supposed to be an open forum with a talk by an expert for beleaguered business owners on how they could improve their bottom line. That was the plan but the ‘expert’, not wise in the way of Gold Coast business, kept making statements and assumptions that were wrong. Most of the attendees took the advice silently but one, who may or may not have enjoyed a long lunch, decided to offer some constructive criticism. “BS!” came his cry. To his credit the expert ploughed on but every sentence was greeted with the same two word interjection and increasing laughter from the crowd until eventually he retired defeated.

SPONSORS for any organisation are always tough to find. Having snaffled one you would think that a person with any sense would understand the importance of keeping said sponsor very, very happy. Not so in the case of this young up and comer who seemed to think it would be funny to promote the product of the opposition via every means possible. Let us just say that the person who put up the money for the sponsorship is less than impressed. D’Oh!
