Broadbeach keen on McGuane return

- TOM BOSWELL

FORMER AFL player Luke McGuane is in talks to return to junior club Broadbeach in the lead-up to the QAFL finals.

McGuane, who played 105 games for Richmond and seven for the Brisbane Lions over a 10-year AFL career, has been registered by Broadbeach who hope the key forward can help the Cats push for a premiership.

Broadbeach coach Brett Andrews said McGuane, 31, would put himself through an intense two-week training block to determine whether he was up to a return to football. “He is registered with us but he is a long way off at this stage,” Andrews said of McGuane, who currently lives in Melbourne.

“It would be great to have him back. He is a Broadbeach junior and is a great bloke but we will know a bit more by the end of next week.

“He will have a bit of a run around to see how he goes. He is pretty fit but he is not match fit so he will have a gallop around and get back to us.

“He has always been in contact with the footy club and we spoke to him at the start of the year but he is really busy with work so we put the clearance in just in case.

“If he gets over the line we might have a decent acquisition for the later part of the year.”
