Indigenous culture the highlight

-

VISITORS to the Gold Coast’s David Fleay Wildlife Park these school holidays have the opportunity to experience one of the oldest, living, continuous cultures in the world – that of the Yugambeh people.

On Thursday and Saturday nights, the park is hosting twilight tours with the Yugambeh people, who will “take you on a mesmerising journey of storytelling, song and dance”.

Visitors can also explore the wildlife park and find out what our Australian wildlife get up to at night.

Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre senior cultural officer Lexene Busbridge said the twilight tours would help bring the community together to celebrate NAIDOC week and was a great chance to learn more about Indigenous culture.

“The tours are an amazing opportunity for people to get a taste of the wonderfully rich Indigenous culture we have here on the Gold Coast,” Ms Busbridge said.

“During NAIDOC week, we celebrate and embrace the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.”

The Twilight Experience will be held tonight, tomorrow night and Saturday night only and numbers are limited.
