‘Ask for Angela’ comes to Byron

-

FOR the past month, Tweed Byron Police have been visiting licensed premises in Byron Bay spreading to word about the ‘Ask for Angela’ campaign.

The campaign is for people who are uncomfortable in a situation talk to approach and ‘Ask for Angela’ — code that they need to get away from the cirucumstance.

Bar staff are now aware of the campaign and can help the person call a taxi or leave discretely.

The idea was born in the UK and has been introduced in NSW to help those meeting strangers, such as blind dates or in a group situation, be safe. Managers and licensees were given posters and information by police.
