DANGER A PART OF LIFE FOR STUNTMAN

- MICHAEL SAUNDERS michael.saunders@news.com.au

JUST two years ago Gold Coast stuntman Matt Mingay’s body lay lifeless on the tarmac of Detroit’s Belle Isle speedway.

Yesterday he looked into the eyes of his new baby daughter for the first time and had to pinch himself.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” he said.

“To think that I died and came back again. I could have been gone forever. Now to give birth to a beautiful little girl is certainly a godsend.

“I’m grateful for it all. It’s amazing how the world works.”

Mingay and wife Sheena gave birth to their second child, Zarlee Danger, on Wednesday afternoon, capping off what has been a rollercoaster two years for the world famous stuntman.

In June 2016 he came within inches of never seeing his family again after a horrific crash during a Stadium Super Truck race in the United States.

Several major operations and months of rehabilitation later, Mingay has made a triumphant return to the wild world of motorsport.

“This year has been the biggest year of my life,” he said.

“I have 32 events booked. I am slowly getting back on top of things and doing events I didn’t think I’d be doing this year.”

So will the 42-year-old let his little girl – with Danger for a middle name – follow in her daddy’s footsteps?

“The way I look at it is my son Maddox is crazy already and my wife Sheena is a bit of a tomboy. So we’ve got no chance of stopping Zarlee,” Mingay said.

“Maddox has ‘Evel’ for his middle name. So having Evel and Danger in the same family means we’re bound to have a whole lot of mischief going on.”

Mingay won’t be taking a break from his busy stuntman schedule as he plans to perform for the crowds at the Ipswich SuperSprint event on July 20.
