The Gold Coast Bulletin

FROM THE PEAKS TO THE SEA

-

OK — this might seem a little out there considering we just had State of Origin, but have you been across the border lately?

You know, just to check out Tweed Shire’s golden beaches, country towns, amazing lookouts and cute cafes?

No? Then this weekend might be perfect.

This route will take you out through the Hinterland, down to Murwillumbah, then to the fringe of Tweed Shire before heading back up to the Coast.

Start by taking the Currumbin Creek Rd from the Gold Coast, winding your way down through the Hinterland on the rainforest-fringed road to the New South Wales border.

Follow it to Murwillumbah where you can stop to explore the cute stores on the main drag, Murwillumbah St.

From there, follow the Tweed Valley Way south. This winding road will take you past paddocks and rows of beautiful trees before you turn left on to Wooyung Rd, which leads back to Tweed Coast Rd, past the dog-friendly Wooyung Beach and through the coastal nature reserve.

It’s worth taking a bit of time out here with kilometres of untouched beaches to enjoy.

You’ll pass townships including Pottsville, with Mooball Creek and Potts Point as potential swimming spots, before arriving at Hastings Point where you can snap amazing pictures of the headland.

There are a number of potential stopping points along the route to the Gold Coast it’ll be hard to pick just one.

Kingscliff is a personal favourite, as is grabbing an afternoon (or night) bite at Tweed Heads before heading home.
