DEVELOPMENT HELPS SCHOOL TO RAISE BAR

-

ALDER Constructions has scored a multi-million-dollar contract with leading Gold Coast school A.B. Paterson to build a state-of-the-art learning centre.

The building, due for completion by January next year, will include 4500sq m of learning spaces across three levels, and be located on the eastern side of the school’s hockey oval at Arundel.

The ground floor will include a rainforest-themed playground, three pre-prep classrooms, after-hours care facility and cafe and film studio.

The upper levels will feature a Year 4-6 library, academic research space, learning spaces, atrium viewing deck and a 160-seat multipurpose lecture theatre.

Alder Constructions general manager Dean Cheffers said the $13 million build will result in a “showstopper”.

“We have worked with the college previously on upgrades to the access roads and carparks, and now we are excited to be involved in such an innovative project, which will be one of the most outstanding educational facilities on the Gold Coast,” he said.

Alder Constructions has delivered private school facilities before, including The Southport School’s multipurpose hall at its preparatory campus, which was completed at the end of last year.

Burling Brown Architects has designed the A.B. Paterson building, which will feature an exterior painted to represent the Australian bush.

A.B. Paterson principal Brian Grimes said the build will result in an “outstanding addition” to the school.

“We have been developing this concept for a number of years and it is exciting to see it starting to come to fruition,” he said. “This facility will set a new benchmark for schools and make a difference to the learning of all students.”
