GET your bids together Australia – the domestic basketball league is set to expand.

Co-owner of English Football League Championsh­ip Club Swansea City, Romie Chaudhari, has been awarded a license for a ninth NBL team in 2019-20.

Chaudhari, a Los Angelesbas­ed entreprene­ur, is chief executive and managing partner of Chiron Investment­s.

In 2016, he became a coowner, director and board member of the EFL Championsh­ip Club, Swansea City.

He is also co-owner of the esports team the Immortals, recently selected as the Los Angeles franchise for the new Overwatch League.

With the assistance of the NBL, Chaudhari will select the most suitable destinatio­n for the league’s next franchise to compete in the 2019-20 NBL season.

It’s understood Melbourne, Hobart, Perth, Brisbane and a third NSW team are all in the running to join a resurgent Australian basketball league.

Chaudhari’s involvemen­t as a proven global businessma­n is also a testament to the competitio­n’s growing global respect.
