PLAYBOY ‘CANDYMAN’ FINDS A NEW LOVE
GOLD Coast playboy Travers ‘Candyman’ Beynon has a new love – Kiwi tourism capital Queenstown.
Earlier this month, Mr Beynon, his wife, girlfriend and brood of four kids swapped the Gold Coast winter for the New Zealand holiday hub.
It is mid-snow season and temperatures in the mountainous southern retreat, also a summer favourite 300m above sea level, hover between one and seven degrees right now. It is famous for bungy jumping and jetboat thrill rides, with the family indulging both.
The tobacconist tycoon, who the Bulletin last week revealed is mulling a mayoralty challenge, held his nerve to do the highest bungy, at 134m with an eight-second freefall.
“Queenstown is the destination you burn the most calories but also consume the most because the town has the most activities and best hamburgers, doughnuts and pies,” he said.
He was referencing famed Fergburger, which has daily queues so big from midmorning it applied successfully to council to take over part of the footpath.
Mr Beynon shouted a Fergburger dinner at their $7000-a-night Sofitel suite, which came complete with a balcony hot tub.
“The holiday was jampacked with activities for my teenage children and my younger kids,” he said.
They visited Coronet Peak and after two hours in ski school “fast-tracked straight to the slopes”.
“By the end of our day we were skiing down the blue slopes, which was exhilarating and has now made the family include a winter holiday in the snow every year.”
Another highlight was Skyline Gondola up to amazing scenery. They also celebrated daughter Lucciana’s 17th.
“Queenstown is without a doubt the best destination to go as a family if you enjoy doing activities that brings everybody together, the type of experience that makes you bond...” Mr Beynon said.
