DJS TURNS TO DISNEY MAGIC
DAVID Jones and Disney have teamed up to redesign the top floor of the Elizabeth St store into a mini themepark style destination for kids.
Mickey and Minnie Mouse were present in Sydney yesterday to mark the occasion and generate interest in the Disney-themed children’s floor, which is set to open in November.
The joint partnership between David Jones and the Walt Disney Company forms a key part of the $200 million refurbishment of the retailer’s flagship store in the inner city.
The “magical one of a kind destination” will be split into five sections called 100 Acre Wood, Marvel, Star Wars, Disney Princess and High Street. The floor will offer exclusive toys and will include a range of boutique kid’s brands such as Country Road, Seed Kids, Armani Junior and Polo Ralph Lauren.
“We are here to create new and very magical experiences that have never been done before,” David Jones CEO David Thomas said yesterday.
“If we think of great international cities, we think of London, we think of New York, we think of Paris, Tokyo.
“Each of them have a unique and special department store experience that speak to the culture to which they operate in. We are seeking to create that here.” The children’s floor will open on level nine in November, with the full refurbishment of the 12-storey building to be complete in 2020.
