Quake hits tourist spot
A POWERFUL earthquake has killed at least 10 people and injured 40 on Indonesia’s Lombok Island, a popular tourist destination next to Bali.
The 6.4-magnitude quake early yesterday damaged dozens of single-storey houses and taller buildings and was felt in a wider area, including in Bali, where no damage or casualties were reported.
The US Geological Survey said the quake struck at 6.47am (8.47am AEDT) at a depth of just 7km, which would have amplified its effect.
East Lombok district was the hardest hit, with eight deaths.
