The Last Sequalo (Race 1)
A few nervous moments were had waiting for the judge to make up his mind up but the end result was the right one for the punters who backed the $3.50 favourite.
Our Rocky (Race 2) Favourite backers had an easier ride in the second when Our Rocky ($3) swooped on the leaders half way down the straight to score decisively for local trainer Don Pearson.
■ You Es Commander (Race 5) A patient ride from Jarrod Woodhouse got the right result when the $3.10 favourite got the judge’s nod in a tight finish. Settled midfield on the fence and wore down leaders in straight.
LOSERS
Little Albert (Race 3) Punters lamented when the $3 favourite Little Albert got a flat tyre in the straight and dropped out of the race to finish fifth, almost four lengths behind winner Nobby’s Gift.
Social Conquest (Race 6) Ryan Plumb tried to lead all the way on the $2.25 favourite but the Chris Munce-trained gelding was left a sitting shot for Pexbury Avenue who had a soft run in behind the pace. Did a good job to hold on for second, a quarter of a length behind the winner
Captain Eyche (Race 7)
After a tardy get-away, Grace Willoughby had Captain Eyche travelling just behind the leaders and then secured a rails run in the straight but the early effort took its toll
NEXT TIME
College Romance (Race 4) The odds on $1.95 favourite for the QTIS Three Year Old Maiden Handicap saluted with a comfortable two and a quarter lengths wins with Rebecca Williams in the saddle. The Ben Currie trained filly is certain to find the winner’s stall again on the provincial circuit in the new season as a four year old.
