SECRETARY AND STEERING COMMITTEE COORDINATOR – SAVE SURFERS PARADISE INC.

-

COUNCIL hasn’t sold the Bruce Bishop Car Park. They’ve given it away! You couldn’t buy a block that size in central Surfers for $100 million, so they have got zilch for our car park. Never again.

ALAN MIDWOOD, BUNDALL

QUEENSLAND is heading down the path of becoming Australia’s most violent state under this Labor Government, with youth crime completely out of control.

Police are resigning in alarming numbers simply because of criminals rights and having to treat these violent youths with kid gloves, while Magistrates allow bail and suspended sentences to young violent criminals.

Bus drivers are quitting their jobs for fear of being bashed by these violent young thugs, while they laugh at the pathetic court system.

In the 1950-60s, the magistrates were so tough, criminals were terrified of them.

No wonder southern states and overseas bikie gangs are all flocking to Queensland, they all know it is the sucker state under Labor’s weak criminal laws.

Next election, the pubic need to use some wisdom when they vote, and consider choosing a change of government, or simply turn your homes into a fortress.

WACKY do: the Gold Coast is to be graced with the presence of the Duke of York.

As long as it gives relevance to his existence, why should we mind? Of course not.

Now practise your curtsies, ladies.

DAVID HALL, COOMBABAH

MANY a child has threatened ‘I’m going to take my bat and ball home and nobody will be able to play’. The others know they probably have to bow to this tirade or the fun’s over. This behaviour is however a sign of immaturity and most people grow out of it — or do they?

If someone doesn’t get their way then they can follow the negative approach with a dummy spit or a more positive approach by presenting a better argument for their view and accepting the result after this.

Unfortunately, there is likely to be a shut down of the American Government with President Trump tweeting ‘I would be willing to ‘shut down’ government if the Democrats do not give us the votes for border security, which includes the wall!’ and ‘Must get rid of lottery, catch & release etc. and finally go to system of Immigration based on MERIT! We need great people coming into our country!’

The two statements need further examination. The first, being a “bat and ball” threat, is surely an absolute last resort, to be used only when every other alternative has failed and the need is vital.

The second tweet sounds fishy, almost as though it was more of a metaphor for the pleasure of capturing the enemy and then releasing them so someone else can catch them next time. Why is there a need for great people as all people are great in their own way?

The wall is the wrong solution and it’s not too far a step to think of it as ‘evil’ - depriving people of a chance of a better life and a massive waste of money that would be better funneled into the starving medical system.
