Leniency after brawl a poor example
AFTER last week’s decision from FIBA to hand down penalties from the disgraceful World Cup qualifier, most Australians are disappointed with the leniency shown by the governing body.
Across the board on social media there was outrage that some of the people weren’t given longer sentences.
FIBA did penalise across the board, but most of the vitriol was targeted at players and team officials who actually threw punches and chairs.
I had to sit at a tribunal this week for young players fighting and there was a general sentiment that it’s hard to penalise children strongly when national players were only given slaps on the wrist.
QBL/SBL
THIS weekend is the last round of the QBL season.
Seahawks women clinched a finals spot last week and locals should be very proud.
Seahawks men have had a strong finish under coach Adam Tyrus and should be happy with their progress.
Rollers men have a doubleheader home round this weekend, tonight v Ipswich and Sunday v Toowoomba.
They must win both to clinch a playoff berth.
In the second-tier SBL, Seahawks were unlucky not to have either team in playoffs.
But the Lady Rollers play a quarter-final on Sunday and the men qualifying second, host a semi next Friday.
