VETERANS from around Australia will today be putting, driving and chipping their way around the course to prove they’re the best senior golfers.

Coolangatta Tweed Heads Golf Club will host its biggest event of the year as 260 players aged 55 and over tee up for the Week of Golf.

Held over five days, with a rest day in the middle, the tournament is split into two events.

The main draw features both Men’s and Ladies’ competitions, which are split into divisions based on skill level.

The tournament also sees a secondary program, where 52 couples will compete.

Tournament director Ross Lever said players had rated it as one of the better veterans’ competitions and, with a full field again this year, it’s proving to be popular.

“We’ve had lots of people who have been coming year after year,” he said.

While the event includes social gatherings, Lever said competition was fierce.

“It’s very competitive, we’ve got some very low handicapped players this year, but it’s also very social off the course as well,” he said.

He said there was for everyone.

“We divide into divisions, so everyone has a chance at winning,” he said.

The competition is in its 17th year and runs from today until August 10. something
