Mauk roaring to go

Brisbane recruit finds net in trial at Robina

- MARCO MONTEVERDE

MIDFIELD recruit Stefan Mauk gave a hint of what Brisbane fans can expect from him this season by scoring his first Roar goal in a 1-1 trial draw with Sydney FC at Robina yesterday.

The former Melbourne City star equalised in the 78th minute of the behind-closeddoors clash, heading home a tantalising Jack Hingert cross which caught Sydney replacement goalkeeper Thomas Heward-Belle in noman’s land.

It was part of a strong second-half performance from the Roar after Sydney had taken a first-half lead through former Central Coast Mariners attacker Trent Buhagiar.

Roar coach John Aloisi was pleased with his side’s fightback and delighted with Mauk’s contribution.

“That’s Stefan Mauk through and through making those runs into the box, and also a great delivery from Jack,” Aloisi said.

“The more they play together the more (they’ll) understand each other.

“We just worked out a few things at halftime that we needed to work on in terms of when we had the ball, and in the second half we played really well.

“It was probably the best performance so far this preseason in the second half.”

Sydney coach Steve Corica, whose squad has been on the Gold Coast for a training camp, was satisfied with the Sky Blues’ performance.

“We’re really pleased with what we’ve done this week,” Corica said.
