Plumb day with Sizzle

-

THE Plumbs have etched their name into racing history with Sugar Sizzle’s win at the Gold Coast.

Siblings Angela and Ryan

Plumb became the first Queensland brother-sister combination to win a metropolitan race in the sunshine state on Saturday when Sugar Sizzle secured victory in the QTIS Three-Years-Old Handicap (1400m).

“I told Ryan if she jumps well and puts herself in front then to keep her there and give her a soft lead but if something else wants to come across and take the lead than to let her sit,” trainer Angela Plumb (pictured) said of her directions to her jockey brother.

It was a day for the Plumb family at Aquis Park. The siblings were met by mother Janet Plumb at the winner’s stalls while father Lyle Jnr, a former top jockey, wasn’t far behind.

Plumb said she would consider taking the Aquis-owned three-year-old filly – the only horse in work in her stable at the moment – to a 1600m metropolitan race at the Sunshine Coast scheduled for a fortnight’s time.

“In my original program I did want to step her up to the mile but I’ll see how she pulls up,” Plumb said.

“She raced at Doomben two starts ago and that was 1350m because she wasn’t quite ready to step up in distance then.

“We may give her a couple more runs or put her out for a spell, depending on how she pulls up.”
