Sally takes stroll down a golden memory lane
IF Sally Pearson needed any motivation to work on her world title defence, she has had it in spades this month.
August is the major championship window and Pearson has taken to social media in recent days, sharing memories on the anniversary of some of her most significant victories. From her London Olympic gold and incredible world championship comeback last year to the 10-year anniversary of her first Olympic medal in Beijing in 2008, the memories have come thick and fast for Pearson, who recently returned to the track.
After an injury layoff that forced her out of a home Commonwealth Games, Pearson could hardly wait to get back into training to work on her world title defence ahead of next year’s event in Doha.
More than 100 days after Pearson announced she had to pull out of her home Games, she returned to the Griffith University track for her first session after working to rehabilitate her achilles injury.
“When you’re going through the lows and you’re injured and you think you’re going to be injured forever, they’re the tough times, definitely,” Pearson told athlete media platform exclusive insight.
“You have fears and you have doubts.”
But Pearson, who like so many young athletes on the Gold Coast will do this season, started her career at Little Athletics, already has her eyes on the prize in Tokyo in 2020 at what will be her third Olympic Games.
“It was the best feeling in the world,” Pearson said of her return to training.
