Tavern upgrade continues Oasis makeover
ONE of the Gold Coast’s most popular pubs is undergoing a million-dollar makeover.
The latest tenancy to undergo a major refurbishment as part of ongoing works being rolled out at the Oasis Shopping Centre since 2015, the Broadbeach Tavern will unveil its new facilities and fresh interior next month.
The venue is owned by the giant ALH Group, which operates more than 330 licensed venues, including a number across the Gold Coast, and more than 550 retail liquor outlets across Australia.
The Broadbeach Tavern is located at the eastern end of the Oasis – the shopping centre that sits on the site once occupied by the five-storey Lennon’s Hotel.
The Coast’s tallest building when it opened on December 17, 1956, the hotel was demolished in 1987, with the Oasis opening in its place two years later.
The tavern has become a popular destination for locals and tourists over the years, including US actor Jason Momoa, who visited the bar with his Aquaman castmates including Temuera Morrison while they were filming on the Gold Coast last year.
While the tavern’s bottle shop and Beach Bar are still open, the kitchen has been closed during the rebuild, which includes a new gaming room with its own private bar, improved pedestrian access to the Oasis and new entrances to the tavern.
Broadbeach Alliance CEO Jan McCormick said the project was great news for the precinct.
“It is wonderful to see Broadbeach continue to reinvent itself and reinforce that it is the hip entertainment and dining hub of the Gold Coast,” she said.
“In the past 12 months we have seen the upgrade of Surf Parade, completion of The Star Grand upgrade, the opening of The Darling, new options for patrons in the dining precinct at Pacific Fair, a complete upgrade of The Oasis.”
