Feast of new venues to be served up
RESTAURATEURS are licking their lips looking at the smattering of venues available along the southern coastline.
The site that previously housed Nobby Beach favourite Sparrow Eating House is earmarked to reopen as a wine and brunch bar.
The venue, to be called Frederick’s, will serve Melbourne-style brunch during the day and have a wine bar focus from Thursday to Saturday nights.
Two vacant sites in Nobby Beach that housed grocery stores are still up for lease.
A new tenant is still being sought for the former Nobby Convenience Store site on a prime corner block at 2221 Gold Coast Highway and Lavarack Rd.
A General Realty listing says the 103.9sq m retail outlet is available for lease to March 2021 for $78,000 per annum all inclusive.
CBRE has also listed a ground floor and rooftop space for lease in a building at 2247 Gold Coast Highway as a suitable site for a restaurant.
The building, which sits inbetween popular restaurants Fire Cue and Gemellini, was previously a Friendly Grocer store and an IGA Supermarket. Plans have been drawn up to refurbishit to accommodate a restaurant.
Further down the highway at Burleigh Heads, CBRE has successfully leased a tenancy at the base of the Burleigh Heads Hotel. The former site of a gym has been divided into three separate shopfronts.
The shopfront to the left of dessert house Oh My Waffle has been leased.
The two-storey Globe store on the opposite side of the highway, next to Justin Lane, has also been snapped up to become a new food and beverage venue.
Further south at Palm Beach, a new cocktail and dessert bar is preparing to take over premises in the 19th Avenue On The Beach apartment complex previously occupied by an Indonesian restaurant.
Infinite Dessert and Cocktail Bar, due to open on September 28, will focus on decadent cocktails and sweets.
Owned by local businessmen Kye Sheehan, Matthew Hartnett and Nicke Connolly, Infinite has secured Aurelio Gulino as its head chef. Gulino was previously head chef at Adriano Zumbo’s Melbourne patisserie.
Mr Sheehan says Infinite will “push the boundaries of conventional food” with molecular gastronomy reminiscent of Heston Blumenthal’s cooking and dishes too pretty to eat.
