THE Coast’s top cop has warned bikies “we’re always watching” in the wake of a number of raids against the Hells Angels.

The president of the Gold Coast Hells Angels chapter was charged, along with two other local members and two more in Logan.

Detectives working with Taskforce Maxima raided homes in Burleigh Heads, Varsity Lakes and Broadbeach Waters in a national day of action against the Outlaw Motorcycle Group (OMCG).

The Coast chapter president was given a notice to appear following charges of possessing prohibited items and wear a prohibited item, believed to be Hells Angels paraphernalia.

He was also charged with six consorting offences and is due in court on October 12.

Assistant Commissioner Brian Wilkins said the action should put other bikies on notice. If they break the law, police will catch up with them.

“This is another great example of Gold Coast detectives, our RAP team, working in partnership with our Major and Organised Crime and Taskforce Maxima to target members of OMCGs,” Mr Wilkins said.

“We’re always watching and we will come knocking.”

During the raids, officers said they found prohibited items including steroids, a .22calibre handgun, amphetamines, knuckledusters, cannabis and ammunition.

Police Minister Mark Ryan said yesterday’s actions showed the Government’s OMCG laws were working.

“Our laws are the strongest, toughest, most comprehensive laws in the nation,” he said.

“I commend the Queensland Police Service for its relentless efforts targeting organised crime.”

A 42-year-old Broadbeach Waters man was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon (handgun), possess dangerous drugs, possess explosives (ammunition) and unlawful possession of a weapon (knuckledusters). He is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on September 26.

A Varsity Lakes man, 66, was charged with three drug offences and drug diverted.

The Hells Angels Logan chapter president was charged with possession of dangerous drugs (steroids), unlawful possession of weapon, unlawful possession of explosives and possess utensils and will appear at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on October 2.

A Loganholme man, 43, was charged with two counts produce dangerous drugs. He will appear in Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow.
