Streets ahead with a record-breaker

- JESSICA BROWN

THE warmer weather is bringing house hunters out of hiding as more people come out to attend auctions in a bid to snap up their dream home.

About 50 people attended the auction of a Currumbin Waters property at the weekend.

It sold under the hammer for $1.3 million, setting a record for Tierney Dr.

Marketing agent Rueben Hickey, of LJ Hooker Currumbin, said the property, at 119-123 Tierney Dr, had attracted a lot of interest in the lead up as well as multiple offers.

“During the auction campaign we had 75 groups through the property,” he said. “We had nine offers.”

Mr Hickey said a Gold Coast couple were the buyers.

“I think it was just for a bit of a change – they said they had been looking (at properties) for a while,” he said.

There were two other registered bidders – a couple Mr Hickey said had moved from Melbourne and were renting on the Gold Coast until they found another property while the other was from Sydney.

Bidding started at $1 million then quickly climbed to $1.25 million when the auction was paused.

Following negotiations, the successful bidders agreed to pay $1.3 million before the hammer came down.

Mr Hickey said the sellers, who were reluctant to give up their home of more than 10 years, were thrilled with what it went for.

“It was a great result,” he said.

“It beat the street record by $70,000.”

A property at 18-20 Tierney Dr set the previous record when it sold for $1.23 million last month.

Mr Hickey said the sellers of 119-123 Tierney Dr renovated the property to prepare it for auction.

Repainting the interior and the exterior of the house, laying new carpet throughout and tidying up the gardens were among the improvements they made to the place.

The house is on a 2904 sq m block and has four bedrooms, three bathrooms and six car spaces.

Its features include an extended outdoor entertainment area, triple garage and solar-heated pool surrounded by tropical gardens.

Mr Hickey believed the suburb would perform well in coming months as more house hunters turned to the area for larger properties.

“There’s definitely some really exciting things happening for Currumbin Waters,” he said.
