At long last we are going to have a Royal Commission into Aged Care. It should not only include nursing home practises but also the outrageous prices they are charged to be there. Food is disgusting and residents are constantly subjected to bullying by staff. Additionally, families have to provide extra food, do laundry and supply all toiletries. I speak from personal experience. Julz.

We urgently need new blood on the Tweed Shire Council that is allowing the Tweed waterways and road upgrades to become neglected. We need councillors with some motivation. Ken from Tweed Heads, I enjoy the positivity in your letters. Ever thought about the job? Anna, Tweed Heads

To nameless why should the woman who didn’t pay for her meal be treated different to a male? Blame the feminists who demanded equality, men don’t pull up and change women’s flat tyres any more, too many women are criminals today and could pull a knife on us, too bad girls you brought this on yourselves. Matty staying single.

Why are we increasingly seeing weather forecasts where the actual max/min temperature is consistently 1, 2 or 3 degrees below the forecast while we rarely see the opposite when the actual temperature is above the forecast?

5000 triathletes a great event and this bloody council wishes to build another kids playground so we can’t hold these events again. Wake up council to what events generate for this city ... Andrew

Rugby Australia dropped the ball on Saturday night. A half full Stadium doesn’t look good on telly. Maybe if they weren’t so greedy for the dollars, $60 for the cheap seats they might have had a full house charging say $30 for any seat. They would have made their money back off a full stadium. How about treating the true rugby fans with the respect they surely deserve. Rugby Australia, it’s all about the fans, not ratings or profits. If you don’t look after loyal supporters AFL, NRL will happily welcome them with open arms & you blokes will be out of a job.

Alan Jones has just been found guilty and fined millions for slandering and telling lies about fellow Queenslanders from his home town. How many more lies does he broadcast without being called to account? Switch off. Don’t give this worst of the worst shock jock any more airtime.

Rita, where are you living this weekend? The Gold Coast 600

is televised world wide and the exposure that the Gold Coast gets is unbelievable and the advertising you could not put a dollar value on. KB Benowa

We have been advised to avoid using aluminium pots and pans, due to toxicity, yet aluminium is used in deodorant every day. Sprayed on the skin to be absorbed with no warning of danger. How do we eradicate the poisons and contain excess sugar, excess salt, excess chemicals, and cancer rates rising. Who is allowing this? Christine W

The loss of yet another female liberal federally proves the Hon Kathy Sullivan distinguished retired member of Moncrieff just proves the wisdom of her words – sitting in parliament the opposition is in front of you but your enemies are behind – Thederm 1972

Good to read Peter Campion’s letter (GCB 15/9) and his admission he was once a brainwashed greenie, what a pity the others haven’t seen the light and still believe in global warming and renewed energy and obsessed with closing down our coal mines destroying thousands of jobs. Onya Peter. Ken. Truck and bike. It’s called natural selection. You could be walking your dog on the beach. But if you’re dumb enough, you’ll still die.

Community services workers could be better used making fire breaks & clearing dry matter away so the wonderful green behind the Gold Coast ain’t black & frizzled, true? It’s dry out back. Tourists can go to California for that.

I’ve got my $250,000 ready to buy a house on the GC. In another 12 months that’s all a current $500,000 house will be worth. The property bubble is popping! And it’s long been predicted. Karen

Rita, the GC 600 is the greatest event bringing thousands of V8 fans from all over Australia and NZ. They all spend thousands of dollars each and boost the local economy. I live in Surfers Paradise and look forward to this fantastic event every year. I’ll be leaving the car at home for 4 days and enjoying the party. I’ve got no time for negative people who are always trying to bring down Surfers Paradise. Get with it or get out. John Z

Great to see body corporate managers getting fined for not doing their job. There’s plenty around. Could also start getting into committees for failing their S94 duties. At the Crest we pay for the gardening twice and the committee sees nothing wrong with it. Go figure. Darryle Knowles, Main Beach

50 years ago it took 3 to 4 days to clear a cheque. With all the advancements in technology it still takes 3 or 4 days to clear a cheque. why is it so? Paul, Tugun.
