Broncos fight complacency in decider build-up
BRONCOS NRLW coach Paul Dyer has vowed his squad are not getting ahead of themselves in the lead-up to Sunday’s inaugural grand final.
Brisbane will meet the Sydney Roosters at ANZ Stadium in Sydney in a history-making moment for women’s rugby league.
The Broncos are the favourites, having won all three matches of their short season.
The Roosters only claimed one victory.
But Dyer said the past three weeks would mean nothing if the Broncos couldn’t prove successful on grand final day.
“Our goal was always to win the grand final, not make the grand final,” he said.
“It’s a wonderful achievement … but we certainly haven’t got the job done yet.”
Dyer said that message to avoid complacency was something the coaching staff had been emphasising each week, after Brisbane stamped their authority early on.
The Roosters, however, are understood to be determined to cause an upset, especially after their Round 2 loss to the Broncos.
But Dyer will make sure the Broncos are ready for that backlash.
“That’s the first thing we spoke about during the week and we reiterated in the dressingroom (on Friday),” Dyer said of the complacency threat.
“While we’re excited to be there and they ought to be commended, we’re looking at a four-game season. We’re only three games down.”
