GLOBAL DEAL TAKES COAST TV SERIES TO MILLIONS
A NEW Gold Coast-filmed TV series from the creator of Mako Mermaids will premiere in more than 500 million households in almost 200 countries and territories after being snapped up by Nickelodeon.
Nickelodeon’s channels and branded blocks will roll out the 20 half-hour episodes that make up the first season of the enchanting live-action series The Bureau of Magical Things around the world from October 8.
Created by producer Jonathan M. Shiff (H2O: Just Add Water, Mako Mermaids), the series, about a girl with magical powers, is currently screening on Channel Eleven in Australia.
Production on the series, based in a purpose-built studio at Arundel and filmed on the Coast and in Brisbane from July to November last year, created 200 cast and crew jobs and pumped an estimated $8.5 million into the local economy.
The show’s allQueensland cast includes Kimie Tsukakoshi (The Family Law), Jamie Carter
(Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), Nicholas Bell, Christopher Sommers
(Hunters), Steve Nation
(Neighbours) and Melanie Zanetti (The Leisure Class).
Gold Coast actors Mia Milnes and Rainbow Wedell
(Terra Nova) play fairies, with real-life siblings Elizabeth and Julian Cullen as brother and sister elves.
“We think kids everywhere will find something relatable in these characters’ journeys to finding their true selves, while learning to embrace and accept what makes them different,” Nickelodeon’s Layla Lewis said.
