Colts build for trophy

Unbeaten and still improving

- ALEXANDRA BERNARD

GOLD Coast Stingrays colts coach Chris Nguyen can almost feel the trophy in his hands.

On the hunt for fourstraight Gridiron Queensland titles, Nguyen is confident his team will be hoisting the trophy aloft at the end of the season.

“Honestly, I think it’s going to be an easy road,” he said.

Two-thirds of the way through the season, the colts haven’t lost a game after defeating the Bayside Ravens 38-0 at Nerang’s Glennon Park on Saturday.

Heading into the Round 8 fixture, Nguyen said he was full of belief his side would make it six wins from as many games.

But while they took the win, Nguyen conceded it wasn’t their best performance.

“They played great, but not excellent. We had some points for improvement,”

Nguyen said.

Despite their spotless record, Nguyen said the team wasn’t being complacent and was using each game as a learning opportunity.

“Each game is a learning curve and we want to be a well-oiled machine,” Nguyen said.

Looking to train the team hard this week, the coach said he wasn’t worried about next weekend’s game against Griffith Thunder.

“I’m confident that as long as the boys do their job, train hard and study their opponent, we’ll come out with the win,” Nguyen said.

Meanwhile, the secondplaced Stingrays women are eyeing off top spot after trouncing the Moreton Bay Raptors 46-0. The men went down 48-7 to the Ravens.
