WAS DAPHNE’S SLIP OF TONGUE A PREDICTION?

COUNCILLOR Daphne McDonald raised her hand during debate about a Palm Beach tower when she accidentally referred to planning committee chair Cameron Caldwell as “Mr Mayor”.

Regular gallery watchers would know Cr Caldwell is touted as the next mayor and Cr McDonald and current Mayor Tom Tate rarely agree. In between bouts of laughter, this is what happened next.

Cr Hermann Vorster: Whoa, that’s a bit presumptuous there, Cr McDonald. Cr McDonald: What’s that? Cr Vorster: Calling him (Cr Caldwell) Mr Mayor.

Cr McDonald (as everyone laughed): Is that why he (Cr Caldwell) has got a smile on his face?

Cr William Owen-Jones (joking): Mr Chair, you now need to be brutally rude.

Cr Caldwell (continuing the joke): What I would normally do is stop Cr McDonald’s questions.

At that point the veteran councillor admitted she had forgotten what she raised her hand about.
